Nethack is “Text-based overhead view D&D-style adventure game” (Quote from Debian’s package description for Nethack).
I started playing Nethack when I bought my first Amiga back in 1994 and it took me no less than nine years to beat the thing. I always had “seasons” in playing Nethack - having months between tries to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor with my female human samurai - so that nine years isn’t as much as it might sound. Some people probably find Nethack way too difficult since when the character die, the game’s over. There are no save-points, no second chances, just death… unless you’re wearing amulet of life saving.
